University Hospital Trauma Center
The Trauma Center at University Hospital is the only adult trauma service in the region. Housed in the University Hospital Emergency Care Center, the Trauma Center offers the latest technologies in medical, surgical, trauma and burn triage and treatment – from ultrasound procedures for OB and trauma emergencies to the area’s only chemical and biological decontamination facility.
As the primary adult teaching hospital for the University of Louisville, the Trauma Center is nationally recognized for its highly competitive surgical programs in trauma, burn, emergency general surgery and surgical critical care
Education is a key part of the University Hospital mission. The Trauma Institute at University Hospital leads the educational component of the hospital’s trauma service.
In addition to training tomorrow’s leading trauma physicians through its residency programs, the Trauma Institute and Burn Unit staff facilitate both community and professional educational programs:
§ Risky Business – a teen drunk-driving prevention program
§ Straight Talk – a juvenile arson program
§ Extreme Skate Park Safety Program – in conjunction with Kosair Children’s Hospital
§ Burn prevention and treatment – for community organizations, schools and companies
§ EMS Pre-Hospital Burns Program – for statewide first responders
§ Advances Trauma Life Support (ATLS) – for health care professionals
§ Advances Burn Life Support (ABLS) – for health care professionals
