The 32nd Annual OKHT will be a fantastic two-day bicycling party this September 12th & 13th. This is your invitation to help us. The Old Kentucky Home Tour is the Louisville Bicycle Club's BIGGEST event and it needs YOU!
This two-day ride is host to 1,200+ riders from across the country and it cannot happen without volunteers. Volunteers will receive free registration and a complimentary t - shirt if you give a minimum of 6 hours of your time to this event.
Volunteering is as simple as sending an e-mail to the Volunteer Coordinator and providing the areas in which you think you can be of service. All volunteers must fill out the registration form, write “VOLUNTEER” in the ride registration area and submit it by mail. (Volunteer registrations cannot be done on-line).
Volunteer EARLY and OFTEN this year as the coveted LBC socks and gift cards presented at the year-end banquet are not guaranteed simply for a weekend of OKHT duty.
Our Volunteer Coordinator is looking forward to working with all of you.

Here's exactly where we need your help:
Friday SAG distribution duties. Need 5 volunteers early on Friday (day before OKHT) to help pick up the trucks, pick up supplies and get everything out of the LBC shed. Friday afternoon we need 5 more volunteers to clean water containers and tables. We also distribute the purchased SAG supplies and load onto the rental trucks for SAG distribution on Saturday morning.
Saturday night SAG distribution duties (in Bardstown at Elementary school after the ride). We need at 2 volunteers to help us divide the food for Sunday's SAG stops.
We have 8 SAGs on Saturday and 4 SAGs on Sunday. Therefore, we need 12 people to volunteer to be SAG stop leaders and oversee a SAG. We will provide a fair amount of help; you will have rider volunteers or you can bring our own and decorate the sag. Sag leaders and helpers take care of the riders (fill water, make Gatorade, make sandwiches, slice fruit, tidy up).
SAG stops on Saturday - need at least 2 additional volunteers at each stop to help the SAG leader, and the SAG sponsor team. Volunteer at a SAG and you can still ride one day of the ride. Volunteer at an Early SAG and you can ride after your SAG closes.
SAG stops on Sunday - need at least 2 additional volunteers at each stop to help the SAG leader, or SAG sponsor team.
Sunday Cookie Stop SAG - (this is a special stop!) need at least 6 to 8 additional volunteers to help the SAG leader.
Sunday Cookie Stop traffic calmers - need at least 4 volunteers to slow traffic and cyclists as they approach the SAG stop. Need to direct them off the road and completely into the SAG stop area.
Roving SAG. We need at least 7 volunteers on Saturday and at least 4 volunteers on Sunday. Requires some mechanical knowledge (bike), have a car that can carry at least one bike, one other person, a cooler of ice, water, and supplies for the three routes on Saturday. We provide the supplies but prefer if you bring your own pump (and cooler if possible).
Steve Anderson is the Roving SAG leader. Roving SAG drivers get reimbursed for their gas.
Parking Lot Volunteers. -.Parking will be at the new registration area. Overflow parking will be near the Tom Sawyer baseball fields. Need at least 7 volunteers to slow drivers, direct cyclists/drivers to parking.
Bardstown SAG-We need 4 volunteers to work the SAG in Bardstown.
Bardstown School -We need 4 to 6 volunteers to provide assistance -where to store bikes, sleeping area, direct riders to the buses, massage, etc).
Spalding Hall Lawn -We need 4 volunteers to man the information desk. We need 2 volunteers to help with Sag re-distribution. Also need 2-3 STRONG folks to set up/tear down the BOURBON tasting area.We need 4-6 volunteers to clean up the grounds after dinner .
Route marking – Contact Mike Pitt for Specifics.
SAG Truck Drivers. We need drivers, and helpers - need 4 volunteers (2 on Saturday and 2 on Sunday). EARLY on each day we need 2 people familiar with the rou
tes to drop off the SAG supplies to each stop. One person to drive and one person to direct and navigate. Will also need same crew (or additional crew) to pick up SAG supplies once the SAG has broken down and bring back to Bardstown or Louisville (depending on the day).
Luggage Truck Drivers - need 4 volunteers (2 on Saturday and 2 on Sunday). The Luggage trucks drive directly to Bardstown and you are free for the day after they are unloaded. Saturday drivers have often dropped off the trucks and had time to ride to lunch and back
Breakfast - need at least 4 to 6 volunteers to help us with breakfast set up, clean up, and everything in between.
Post Ride Pizza Party - need at least 4 to 6 volunteers to set up the area, check arm bands prior to getting pizza, remove arm bands.
Post Ride Clean Up - need 4 to 8 volunteers to meet at Sawyer Park after the ride, clean up and consolidate all the SAG supplies for the LBC shed. Need someone to drive the truck, load the shed and call it another successful year!
